Scope of the Position

The Quality Engineer supports and promotes plant wide quality improvement efforts. Lead and maintain PPAP Process and supporting functions. Evaluate and develop improvement techniques for quality and reliability. Maintain and report on the quality management systems using Process Audits (Layered, Flex-N-Gate, Customer required, Control plan audits). Works with employees, suppliers and customers to produce quality products that meet or exceed the customer and plant's requirements. Coordinates Corrective Action and Continuous Quality Improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Handle Supplier issues. Review Supplier testing requirements and ensure that systems are in place to meet them.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure testing requirements are being met and oversee PPAP process.
  • Ensure production is producing quality product to specifications.
  • Provide support onsite to suppliers as needed.
  • Document all activities as required.
  • Provide support and maintain compliance with all company guidelines, union contracts, International Quality Standards (ie ISO, IATF, etc.) and all applicable government regulations and standards.
  • Makes decisions with regard to disposition of non-conforming material and that proper containment and follow up is done.
  • Perform additional assignments per manager’s direction.
  • Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the awareness, understanding, specific responsibilities and management of the Environmental Management System (EMS) as stated in EMS policy CEVPL.00005.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the awareness, understanding, specific responsibilities and management of CQAM.00001 – Quality Management Systems Manual.
  • Maintain revolving internal audit calendar and assignments.
  • Maintain internal auditor credentialing and competency records.
  • Review cited nonconformances for alignment, drive internal corrective actions with process owner.
  • Awareness and understanding of Quality Management System process driven audits, manufacturing process audits and product audits to ensure plant conformance with Customer Specific Requirements, IATF 16949:2016 Standard and ISO 9001:2015 Standard.
  • Awareness and understanding of Environmental Management System process driving audits and contingency testing to ensure plant conformance with Customer Specific Requirements and ISO 14001:2015 Standard.
  • Maintenance and distribution of Supplier Scorecards.
  • Supplier Monitoring and Nonconformance processing in PLM.
  • Problem Solving using 3 Legged 5 Why or 8D methodology to establish root cause, systemic impact, PCA and effectiveness. Liaison between plant and supplier base.
  • Management and disposition of Plant Material Rejections for Suspect/Defective Material.
  • Engage Quality Team where reaction plan, containment and sort efforts are warranted to monitor suspect/nonconforming material sort and processing of material rejections.
  • Oversee Supplier PPAP Level 3 and Level 4 tracking, review and processing.
  • Supplier Certification Tracking
  • Plant level PLM Administrator for Document Control and Record Retention
  • Monthly tracking of CSR’s ensuring process and procedure impacts are communicated when there are changes.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Certified Quality Engineer Certificate
  • Preferred 3-5 years’ of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma
  • Knowledge of production process, machines, tools, including design and uses.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office and the use of statistical software.
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Supervisory and interpersonal skills are required
  • Troubleshooting ability is required
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated good internal and external customer service skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • GDT/Blueprint reading
