Scope of the Position
The Environmental Supervisor assists in leading efforts in developing and maintaining effective environmental management systems (EMS) and reducing the carbon footprint of facilities. Provides the ability to lead and mentor teams, ensuring adherence to safety, health, and sustainability practices. Adept at managing complex environmental permits and documentation while driving continuous improvement in environmental performance. Passionate about promoting environmental stewardship within organizations to achieve regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Has a general awareness of safety requirements and regulations.
- Understands the requirement and use of Personal Protective Equipment
- General awareness and knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO9001, ISO14001 and how it effects the department.
- Has completed an overview for statistical process control
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Trained on work instructions and easily identifies location of work instructions in department
- Knowledgeable of safety requirements and regulations related to wastewater treatment and the handling of hazardous chemicals.
- Strong written, verbal communication skills, Strong computer skills
- Knowledgeable of state, federal, and local environmental, DOT, and community right to know regulations.
- Knowledgeable and capable of submitting all state, federal, and local environmental reports and notifications.
- Develops, writes, trains in use of, and implements use of environmental work instructions for all departments.
- Capable of establishing and managing an environmental recordkeeping system for the facility
- Responsible for all environmental training in plant (RCRA, DOT, 24/8 Hazwoper, Permit Awareness)
- Instructs Associates in the environmental aspects at this facility
- Capable of creating profiles for and managing waste at the facility
- Capable of determining DOT shipping packing and labeling requirements for hazardous materials shipped from the facility.
- Knowledgeable of waste water treatment equipment, chemistry, and requirements
- Capable of performing audits of facility, vendors, and other facilities as required.
- Ensures compliance with ISO 14001 and maintains Environmental Management System
- Understand RCRA and DOT requirements for hazardous wastes and hazmats. Can determine and characterize hazardous wastes, perform necessary inspections, and complete and sign haz waste manifest or hazmat BOL.
- Ability to understand and comply with CSR’S (Customer Specific Requirements)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental management, with specific experience in regulatory compliance and environmental program implementation.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA) and standards (e.g., ISO14001).
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to train and educate others.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities, with experience in directing technical and regulatory personnel.
- Certification such as Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or similar is a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office and environmental management software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
