Scope of the Position
The Environmental/ Ecoat Technician is responsible for planning daily analysis, test and data preparation in the steel, E-Coat, Powdercoat and Waste Water treatment areas. Environmental technician will ensure that the operation of the lab will run efficently and maintain data so that the highest quality production standards are met while following all environmental, health & Safety regulations. Starting pay is $62K/ Year
Responsibilities
- The Environmenta / Ecoat Technician position is responsible for the maintaining the performance and integrity of the paint line process.
- Each stage of the process has specific chemical requirements that must be controlled.
- The equipment needs to be monitored for process parameters including temperature, pressure, flow, etc.
- The Environmenta / Ecoat Technician should be able to learn and conduct chemical titrations to test the chemical baths and add chemicals when and where required on a daily basis.
- Sock and plate filters need to be removed and replaced or cleaned on a daily basis.
- Capable or managing tank pump outs and cleanings during production downtime events.
- Be able to identify when pumps, plumbing, and tank levels are not functioning properly.
- Help troubleshoot and root cause quality defects on parts.
- Assist in spare parts and chemical inventory management.
- Drive a HiLo and empty sledge hopper and replace chemical totes
- Coordinates and maintains company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental regulations.
- Maintain and update environmental policy and procedure manual.
- Manage and maintain wastewater treatment system at peak operating levels with the goal of meeting regulator requirements, operating cost efficiently and minimizing impacts to production and the environment.
- Researches environmental information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the work place.
- Responsible for environmental orientation, training, and job site inspections.
- Handle all environmental testing, recordkeeping and submission of reports to local, state or provincial and federal regulators.
- Prepare and enter data for S.P.C Program and run charts
- Daily analysis according to lab schedule
- Conducts research on hazardous waste management projects determining the magnitude of problems and treatment or disposal alternatives and cost.
- Determines sites and violation reports to investigate, coordinating compliance and enforcement activities with government agencies.
- Monitors follow-up actions where violations were found, and reviews compliance monitoring reports.
- Provides advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of environmental issues and decisions.
- Advises on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.
- Acts as Environmental Management Representative (EMR) with issues related to ISO 14001 elements.
- Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company environmental management program by all Flex-N-Gate employees and subcontractors.
- Manage repairs or coordinate with maintenance, any repairs to waste treatment systems.
- Manage or establish preventive maintenance programs as required.
- Supervise Lab
- Supervise management of hazardous waste storage areas and building in compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
- Maintain and revise department work instructions and procedures as required.
- Complete Regulatory reports.
- Preforms regular audits
- Safely handle potentially harmful chemicals and wastes (strong corrosives, chrome wastes, etc.) on a day-to-day basis.
- Complete manifests, confirm proper labeling and DOT placarding for hazardous waste shipments.

Qualifications
Education, Training & Develpment Requirements:
- Associates degree in Environmental Science or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in waste water treatment or at minimum two (2) years’ experience as an industrial process operator, maintenance or lab technician (or equivalent)
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written). Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
- Mathematical aptitude (basic calculations working with fractions, ratios, proportions, and units of measure).
- Exhibit mechanical aptitude.
- Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize. Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
- Troubleshooting ability is required along with good computer and presentation skills with ability to manage multiple projects.
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated good internal customer service skills
- Experience in an industrial setting working with fluids, cleaning tanks, and plumbing.
- An aptitude for measuring and collecting data and using a computer.
- Maintenance and trouble shooting skills
- Understanding of ISO 14001 EMS Systems
Working Conditions
- Ability to work inside and outside, in cold and hot environments
- Physical ability to lift minimum of 25
- Overtime as required.
- Must be willing to work various shifts
- Must be able to work unsupervised
