    Scope of the Position

    The Packaging Engineer works in conjunction with suppliers, the Materials, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Engineering departments to look at conception, design, and fabrication of Totes, Corrugated,Racks and Shelving in a Plant environment


    • Oversee and manage complete packaging development process; creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing for new and existing projects
    • Mange the Packaging work instructions and update
    • Cost saving inititives on damaged racks
    • Design Blanks
    • Drives packaging continuous improvement programs (i.e. density improvements)
    • Develop and implement comprehensive packaging test plans to exceed customer specs
    • Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs
    • Manage damaged containers system and attend program review meetings
    • Assist with quoting and purchasing of packaging storage equipment (i.e. shelving)
    • Present design concepts and prototypes to internal and external customers for acceptance
    • Work with the manufacturing department to insure that the packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability
    • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions
    • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging
    • Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation
    • Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews
    • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Attend tryouts for early packaging development as required
    • Complete required packaging documentation
    • Assist in the development of maintenance programs for returnable systems
    • Coordinate updates of the Bill of Material for packaging revisions
    • Assist in the launch training for packaging being implemented
    • Obtain customer and plant approvals for packaging through required EDI, email and/or customer-specific portals
    • Create and update Operator Packaging Instructions
    • Assist with Standardized Work activities and correspondent packaging solutions
    • Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.


    • AutoCAD
    • Mange the Packaging work instructions and update
    • Engineering degree, Engineering Technologist diploma or equivalent
    • 3-5yrs packaging development experience in the automotive industry
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills with ability to prioritize work and issues in a fast-paced environment
    • Knowledge & understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.)
    • Drafting and specification standards is essential
    • Problem solving and decision making skills
    • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
    • Must have good communication skills, orally and in writing
    • Rack Testing S/W
