Scope of the Position

The CMM/Scanner Operator’s role is to create inspection programs for coordinate measuring machines/scanners and to ensure the machine is properly working throughout programming scripts and tests. The incumbent is responsible for part dimensional data analysis from the CMM/Scanner, Gauge control, and Gauge calibration, and testing.


  • Program CMM/Scanner
  • Utilize standard inspection tools to verify parts meet print specifications (including but not limited to calipers, micrometer, optical comparators, gauges, etc.)
  • Interpret standards and specifications.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and interpret measurement data, statistical trends, and recommend actions.
  • Ability to support and organize PPAP documentation for customer approval.
  • Document and evaluate historical data to determine calibration intervals
  • Operation of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)/Scanner, including development and maintenance of programs, set up and execution.
  • Create program set up and execution documentation detailing preparation, part orientation and operation instructions for other inspection personnel. Create and edit dimensional inspection programs for the CMM/Scanner, both interactively and off-line.
  • Working knowledge of blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications and geometric dimensioning and tolerance and other data to arrive at acceptance or rejection.
  • Conduct inspections of miscellaneous parts, gages and tooling as required.
  • Must be able to interact and assist with Manufacturing and Engineering personnel in regards to part conformance and process capability.
  • Calibration, maintenance and repair of CMM /Scanner fixtures.

  • Interpret test results, compare them to established specification and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data for release.
  • Participate in out of specification and failure investigations and recommended actions / risk analysis.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the awareness, understanding, specific responsibilities and management of the Environmental Management System (EMS) as stated in EMS policy CEVPL.00005.
  • Clean and maintain a safe work area.
  • Understands implements and maintains the Company's quality policy in the performance of all duties and responsibilities.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent + Technical courses related to CMM experience
  • 2 to 4 years' experience in quality or related department preferred
  • 3D CAD, and GD&T experience preferred
  • Polyworks, PC-DMIS experience preferred
  • Extensive mathematical knowledge and skills (Geometry)
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
  • Troubleshooting ability is required
