Overview:

Urbana Country Club located in Urbana, IL is seeking a proven, successful general Manager. Founded in 1922, the Club was acquired by Mr. Shahid Khan in 2009. Urbana Country Club offers a full line of amenities and services including, golf, swimming, tennis, banquets, and fine dining. The Clubhouse was substantially remodeled in 2015.

Scope of the Position:

The General Manager's purpose is to direct all phases of Club operations to provide quality service and product to Club Members and Guests. Fiscal responsibility includes managing the financial viability of the Club, and ensuring the Club meets all financial obligations. The General Manager is accountable for setting direction, allocating resources and ensuring execution in the Club environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Administers Club policies and procedures established by the Club’s Owner.

  • Plans, develops and approves specific operational policies, programs, procedures and methods in concert with general policies.

  • Maintain exceptional Member Relations and facilities by creating a quality environment through staffing, programming, service operations, and maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities for Member events, food and beverage services, golf and recreational facilities that satisfy on-going Member needs and implement to achieve revenue objectives.
  • Actively market Club Memberships, Member services and Club facilities to attract new Members and achieve revenue objectives.
  • Coordinates development of operating and capital budgets according to the budget calendar; monitors monthly and other financial statements for the Club; takes effective corrective action as required.
  • Monitors monthly and other financial reports/statements on a daily, weekly and monthly basis for the facility and takes effective corrective action when necessary.
  • Coordinates the development of the Club’s long-range and annual (business) plans.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Directly manages department members that may include, but is not limited to: Assistant General Manager (Clubhouse Manager); Food and Beverage Director; Membership Director; Golf Professional; Superintendent; Tennis Professional; Office Administrator.
  • Attends conferences, workshops and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field.
  • Coordinates and serves as ex-officio member of the Club’s standing committees.
  • Consistently ensures that the Club is operated in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.
  • Oversees the care and maintenance of all the Club’s physical assets and facilities.
  • Participates in outside activities that are judged as appropriate and approved by the Owner to enhance the prestige of the Club; broadens the scope of the Club’s operation by fulfilling the public obligations of the Club as a participating member of the community.
  • Maintains relations with police, fire, liquor control board, health department and other governmental agencies.
  • Handles emergencies such as fires, accidents and breaches of security or house rules promptly and in person. Emphasizes prevention through training, inspection and preventive enforcement.
  • Convenes and presides over meetings with departmental managers; conducts all-facility personnel meetings.
  • Gives direction to and works closely with vendors, outside contractors, firms and individuals providing services, lease agreements, or contracts to the Club.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA); and/or 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly stands, walks and sits. Occasionally may climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crawls, crouches, tastes or smells. Regularly uses hands to finger, feel or handle, reaches with arms and hands, talks or hears. Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.

Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences:

  • Ability to read and speak English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
